Starting Over

It's been 3 moves, 4 1/2 months homeless (we lived with my son), new job, laid off, another new job, new home, and 3 1/2 years since I last put a blog up here. About time to get started again.

With a new home comes a new work space. It looks more like a warehouse as we are still unpacking. Most of it is shop stuff that needs to be unpacked.

I'm thinking this is a good time to restart this blog and chronicle my new start in a new shop space.

Follow me as I set up a new shop and get started again!

Time For A Cleanup

This shop is a mess! I can't work here.

Must be time to clean it up.

(clean, clean, clean, clean)

That's better. Not good but better.

There is so much more to do.

This brace and the bits need a home.

Where do I put all these scraps? They are too good to throw out. Or at least I think so.

That pile of what ever behind the drill press has got to find a home.

That isn't just a pile of rags. There's a small lathe in there, somewhere.

The problem with this shop isn't the size, It's the clutter! A cluttered environment leads to cluttered thinking and that can lead to stress. A shop that stresses you out isn't a shop you can relax and enjoy working in. So, you go  back in to the house and watch t.v., frustrated by the fact that you didn't accomplish anything.

I'm David Ragsdale, amateur wood worker and tinkerer. During the day, I'm a mechanical engineer. At home, I like to design toys and sometimes I actually build one.

The purpose of this blog is two fold; to show people my shop and how it is being improved, and to learn how to blog.

Next time, I hope to show you what I am going to do with that brace and bit set. From there, well, we'll see what happens. There is much to be done and I'm going to keep you informed on my progress and show you how I'm doing it.

There will be some musings along the way about some of my other hobbies and there will be the occasional project just for fun along the way.

And don't think for a minute that all toys are for little kids! Some of us never really grew up.
